Achieving a Work-Life Balance, Part 2
In the first part of our series on achieving a work-life balance, I talked about the dangers of investing too much of your time and energy on sports betting and not spending enough time on your other obligations. When you are impatient to start making serious money, it is easy to forget about the rest of your life. But when you do that, your physical and psychological health suffers, your relationships erode, and you lose much of the important perspective you need to make new mental connections and improve your gambling strategies.
What are some tips to keeping your work and life in balance?
- Always make time to take care of your body. Eat a healthy diet, exercise, and get all the sleep you need. It is easy to be tempted to forego sleep if you are already working a full-time job and trying to learn to wager on top of that. But remember, when you are sleep-deprived, you may as well be inebriated; that is how much your mental function is impaired. Eat a healthy, well-rounded diet that includes foods that boost brain function, like those which are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids. This will help you to perform at your best.
- Do not neglect your day job. You may hate it and be looking forward to the day you can quit, but for now it sustains you and it fuels your betting account. You need it, and that makes it important.
- Take time to relax. Taking time off now and again does not make you lazy. Relaxing gives your brain a chance to rest and form important new connections. You may very well find that time off actually helps you to achieve your gambling goals faster.
- Spend time with your loved ones. Our relationships are at the core of our lives, and remind us of what is really important in life. Of course you want to get rich as a sports bettor, but it is essential to keep your eyes on not just the goal, but the reason. Why do you want to get rich? You have to have some kind of meaningful driving motivation, or you will never make it in this life.
- Make time to help others and to take care of your spiritual health, whatever form that takes. Get involved with community service, meditate, write a poem, read articles about the cutting edge of science—do something that inspires you, whatever that may be.
When you become really committed to a purpose, like making a living as a sports bettor, it is surprisingly easy to throw the rest of your life aside. You may feel like taking time away from your analysis and betting means you are being idle and irresponsible, but it means just the opposite. When you have an appropriate work-life balance, you are pushing yourself toward success and improving your chances of actually reaching your goals. And most importantly, you are reminding yourself of why you want to reach them.
