Asian Handicap Explanation
The Asian Handicap is a betting market created so that the draw is taken out of play and a competitive market is formed. The weaker team (or underdog) is given a number of goals ( +0,5 , +1 etc ) and the the favourite is ‘handicapped’ an equal number of goals in an attempt to make the two teams equal for betting purposes.
A few examples of Asian Handicap:
-
Team with handicap + 0
If either team wins by any goal difference they (the winning team) are to be settled as the winning selection. In the event of a draw all bets are void and stakes are refunded.
-
Team with handicap - 0.5
- Win by 1 or more - All bets on this selection are winners.
- Draw or lose - All bets on this selection are losers.
-
Team with handicap – 1
- Win by 1 goal - stake is returned.
- Win by 2 goals or more – All bets on this selection are winners.
- Lose by any score - All bets on the selection are losers.
-
Team with handicap -+0.5
- Win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
- Draw - All bets on this selection are winners.
- Lose by any score - All bets on this selection are losers.
-
Team with handicap +1
- Lose by 1 goal - stake is returned.
- Lose by 2 goals or more – All bets on this selection are losers.
- Win by any score - All bets on the selection are winners.
Double Asian Handicap
The Double Asian Handicap is used to split a wager into two equal and separate bets. Each bet has the same odds to win, but at a different single handicap. So you can win both bets , win one part of the bet and get a return of your stake in the other, lose one part and get return in the other or unluckily lose both.
A few examples of double asian handicap:
-
Team with handicap 0,+0.5
- Win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
- Draw - Half the stakes are refunded on this selection. The other half of the stake is classed as a loser.
- Lose by any score - All bets on the selection are losers.
-
Team with handicap +0.5,+1
- Win by 2 or more - All bets on this selection are winners.
- Win by exactly 1 - Half the stake is settled at the price of the chosen selection. The other half is returned.
- Draw or lose by any score - All bets on this selection are losers.
-
Team with handicap – 0.5,-1
- Draw or win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
- Lose by exactly 1 - Half the stake is returned. The other half is classed as a loser.
- Lose by 2 or more - All bets on this selection are losers.
How do bookmakers make money - The overround
We all know that the bookmaker never loses. But how can bookmakers guarantee that they will make profit from all the markets they offer?
All bookmakers make their profit from the overround of the odds they offer in each market. From a punters point of view an appreciation of overround is important and useful. The overround is a calculated figure that indicates the bookmakers theoretical profit percentage on any given market. The higher the overround figure, the higher the advantage to the bookmaker.
Lets have look at an example:
In our example we will take the odds of a balanced game and in particular the derby Everton - Liverpool. The odds for the home team will be 7/5 (2.40) , the draw 23/10 (3.30) and odds for away team 2/1(3.00)
The overround is calculated differently for decimal and fractional odds.
Fractional overround calculation: 1/ (1+home odds) ) + ( 1/ (1+draw odds) ) + (1/ (1+away odds) )
Decimal overround calculation : (1/ home odds) + ( 1/ draw odds) + ( 1 / away odds)
Both calculations end up with a number of 1.05. What the 1.05 figure indicates is that the bookmaker has set his odds to make an 5% profit on all stakes taken on that match whatever the outcome is on the game.
It is useful for punters to know the real probabilities in order to make a good pick. Bookmakers employ further formulas to calculate adjustments to make to odds depending on the actual money flow on each outcome of an event.

Obvious error (palpable)
What is an Obvious Error
An obvious error or palpable error occures when a bookmaker offers incorrect odds for a market. The wrong odds can be a result of a number of reasons like any incorrect information published in regard to an event or even a human genuine mistake. For example, incorrectly (reversed) setup handicap, wrong team/teams/participants, incorrect deadlines or technical errors etc.
All online bookmakers reserve the right to pay out on the odds that the market should have had initially. They all have clear rules regarding obvious errors stating that prior to the start of an event, In-Play or after the event, where an Obvious Error is identified any open bets will stand and be settled at the bookmakers revised price. Some bookies will endeavour to contact the customer if there is sufficient time before the start of an event usually by email to give the player the option to cancel the bet.
There is no point arguing with the bookmakers regarding an obvious error they made and paid you out with smaller odds. It is a very common issue in the online betting industry and that is why the bookies are fully covered by their rules.

Football Betting Markets
There are so many markets that you can bet in football in online betting and its very easy to get confused with all those markets. Below you can find a football betting guide with the most popular betting markets. Asian handicap is explained in another topic since its a more complicated betting market.
Lets start with the most simple football betting markets.
The final result
This is just a simple bet for a team to win , lose or draw. You just select “1” for a home win, “2” for an away win or “X” for the draw.
The double result - Half time/ Full time
In this market you bet in the outcome of both half time and full time. In order for your bet to win you need both results to come. If for example you have Draw/Home you need a draw in the first half and a win for the home team at the end of the game.
To win both halves
Many players get confused with that market. To win both halves means that the team you are betting on has to win each half separately.
For example if the first half is 1-0 to the home team and the final result is 2-1 then your bet is not a winner for the simple reason that the home team won 1-0 the first half but in the second half the score was 1-1 so a draw! This bet would have been a winner for the double result market Home/Home but not to win both halves.
Double Chance
In this betting market you cover 2 outcomes of the football match. You can go for Home Team or Draw, Away Team or Draw and Home Team or Away team
Draw No Bet
This is a betting market that has become very popular recently in online betting. If your selection doesnt win but the final result is a draw then you get your stake back. In an accumulator this selection counts as a void selection
Correct Score
This is a bet on the final score in the match, e.g. 1-0, 2-2, etc.
Over/Under or Goal line
Another very popular betting market. In that market you bet for the number of goals in the match.
When you bet for example for under 2.5 goals in the match you need 2 or less goals to be scored to have a winning bet. If you bet for over 2.5 goals you need 3 or more goals in the match to win.
First Goal scorer
In this market you bet which player will score the first goal in the match. Some bookmakers will offer this market each-way. This means that you can still win some money ( usually 1/3 of the odds ) if your selection scores in the match.
Own goals don't count and your bet goes to the next goalscorer in the match.
Last Goal scorer
In that market you bet which player will score the last goal in the match.
Anytime Goal scorer
In this market you bet which player will score anytime in the match and own goals don't count.

This betting market is a combination of the correct score bet and the first goal scorer bet.Your selected player needs to score the first goal in the match and you need to predict the final score as well.
Anytime Scorecast
This betting market is a combination of the correct score bet and a anytime goal scorer bet. Your selected player needs to score anytime in the match and you need to predict the final score as well.
