Achieving a Work-Life Balance, Part 1
As a serious sports bettor, you have to put in a ton of time and energy in order to see results. If you have been wagering for a while, that is something you know from experience, and if you are a novice, it is something you are probably beginning to find out. While the problem for a lot of gamblers is a lack of discipline and hard work, the problem for other gamblers is the complete opposite. You can easily become lost in your pursuit of wealth and achievement and forget to maintain a proper work-life balance.
What are the problems with working all the time and forgoing other activities?
· Your general health suffers. You may not be eating well or getting enough sleep because you are focused on betting all the time. This does happen to people, and it can quickly turn into a serious problem.
· If you have an addictive personality, you may be tempting yourself into losing all perspective. You could very well end up with a gambling problem.
· If you have a social life, you may begin neglecting it, and before long, you may not have one. Your friends and family need you, and you need them. If you spend all of your time in front of your computer, you will end up neglecting these important relationships.
· As your health and relationships suffer, so will your perspective and your mental clarity. You will probably lose your sharpness and eventually, your edge in the markets. It is pretty tough to make good judgment calls when wagering when you are making poor judgment calls all around and ignoring the toll they are taking on your life.
If you do lose perspective, you will not only find your life falling apart around you, but your gambling too. You will end up losing more and more money, and then end up wondering what happened. You have probably met people this has happened to. This is why so many people would never consider sports betting for a living. Everyone has that cousin or uncle or brother or friend who wagered, lost themselves in gambling, and ended up losing everything. They then blamed sports betting, instead of themselves.
Sports betting doesn’t have to go that way, and professional sports bettors never gamble their perspective on life for a monetary return. They moderate their betting activities and remember to schedule time off for leisure, friends and family, and other important activities. They keep up their physical and psychological health.
Depending on your personality, this may be a challenge, but it is worth it to be patient. Even though taking time off may not seem like a great betting strategy in the short run, it will pay off in the long run. When you are functioning at your best physically and mentally and you are leading a balanced, healthy life, you are a balanced, healthy punter. That by itself is an edge over all your fellow gamblers who lose themselves in the game!
