Will the Queen Make It To Royal Ascot?
The Queen was scheduled to deliver the Queen’s Speech to Parliament on June 19th. But because of the result of the UK snap election that led to a hung parliament, it is entirely possible that the speech will be delayed. Basically, the speech may interfere with her scheduled appearance at Royal Ascot. Because of this, she may end up postponing it until after the Royal Meeting.
Betway has commented on this. Spokesman Alan Alger said, “Royal Ascot is hugely important to the Queen and we think there’s more chance of her delaying her speech at the House of Lords than missing the races.”
In fact, Betway and some other UK betting sites are currently accepting wagers on whether or not the Queen will delay her speech to the House of Lords.
Reportedly, the Queen has not missed a single day of Royal Ascot since she was crowned in 1953. The nearest miss was in 2001, but upon concluding her speech, her majesty was hurried immediately to Ascot to ensure that she wouldn’t miss a moment of the action. It is hard to imagine she would miss a day now, but Parliament is pretty important.
