Royal Ascot Dress Code 2016
Fashion is a big deal at Royal Ascot. In some ways, it is almost as important as the races. If you are attending Royal Ascot 2016, you will be in one of the three enclosures: the Royal Enclosure, the Queen Anne Enclosure, or the Windsor Enclosure. The Royal Enclosure is by invitation only; if you have actually merited an invite, you know you are incredibly fortunate, and you probably are already familiar with the very formal dress code.
Most attendees will be in one of the other two enclosures. The Queen Anne Enclosure is the more formal of the two and has a stricter dress code. The Windsor Enclosure is more casual.
Here is the rundown on dress codes:
Windsor Enclosure
There is actually no formal dress code for this enclosure, save that you are not allowed to wear replica sports shirts. You are also strongly encouraged to wear “smart” clothes. So it is best to aim conservative.
Queen Anne Enclosure
This is the enclosure where you need to take extra care to meet dress code requirements.
For ladies:
- You must wear a hat at all times
- Do not wear strapless or sheer strap tops or dresses
- If you wear trousers, they must be full-length (no shorts are permitted)
- Your midriff must be covered
For gentlemen:
- You must wear a matching suit, shirt, and tie
As you can see, the dress code is relatively simple, even though it is specific. Dress for the Queen Anne Enclosure as you would for a formal occasion (like attending church or a fancy party).
Of course, if you are watching Royal Ascot on Channel 4 or via live-stream online, there is no dress code! You can just kick back in your PJs and enjoy the action.
