Royal Ascot 2016
We are coming up fast on the biggest horse racing event of the year! Royal Ascot takes place each year during the third week of June and lasts for five days. This year’s event is scheduled to start Tuesday, June 14th and run through Saturday, June 18th. During that week, spectators will have a chance to bet on 30 thrilling races!
If you have never attended Royal Ascot, you are missing out in a big way. Royal Ascot not only brings together the most skilled horses, jockeys, and trainers for five days of fast-paced action, but also draws the UK’s most fashionable crowd. Whether you watch from the Windsor Enclosure or Queen Anne Enclosure or you tune in via Channel 4, Royal Ascot 2016 offers you a chance to be a part of one the UK’s most iconic cultural events.
Here is the schedule for Royal Ascot 2016:
- Tuesday, June 14th: On this day, the Royal meeting begins! The three big races this day are the Queen Anne Stakes, the King’s Stand Stakes, and the St. James’s Palace Stakes.
- Wednesday, June 15th: This day tends to be a bit more sedate than opening day, drawing a bit less of a crowd. Still, one of the most important races of the event is scheduled for Wednesday, the Group One Prince of Wales’s Stakes.
- Thursday, June 16th: Thursday is known as “Gold Cup Day,” named of course for the Gold Cup, the most important race of the day. It is also the most important event for stayers in Britain every year. This is a huge day not only for horse racing, but also for fashion.
- Friday, June 17th: The biggest event of the day on Friday is the Group One Coronation Stakes.
- Saturday, June 18th: On the final day of Royal Ascot, you get to watch the thrilling Diamond Jubilee Stakes. This is one of the most prestigious horse races in the world.
“Can I get tickets?”
Yes, but you need to hurry if you want to get in! Tickets for Thursday and Saturday are sold out for both the Queen Anne Enclosure and the Windsor Enclosure. You can still buy tickets for the other three days. Prices may increase closer to the week of Royal Ascot, so you probably want to jump on the great deals which are currently available while they last.
“What if I can’t attend in person?”
Didn’t buy your tickets on time, or just can’t make it to the racecourse? That’s okay, you can still watch the races on Channel 4. You may also be able to stream them on your UK betting site. Most betting sites require you to place a wager before you can stream, but usually that bet is very minimal, generally just a couple of pounds.
