What Can Multi-tabling Teach Us About Sports Betting? Part 2
In a recent article, I discussed briefly how multi-tabling in poker can be compared to juggling multiple bets when wagering on sports. If you are not familiar with multi-tabling, be sure to check out Part 1 for a brief introduction. In this article and in Part 3, as promised, I want to get into a number of lessons which multi-tabling poker can teach us about managing your bets.
1. There are an optimum number of wagers you can enter at any one time.
You should only ever take bets that you feel have a good chance at winning, but the question is this: how many can you get into at a time and still know you have that chance? The more bets you take on, the more money you could potentially win, but the harder it is to 1-plan your wagers, and 2-keep track of them during live matches.
Multi-tabling, players in poker face a similar question of optimisation. Up to a certain point, multi-tabling can pay off nicely. But past a certain point, it becomes inefficient. It gets too hard to follow all the games and make smart choices.
This is why multi-tablers have to experiment and take careful notes to determine how many games they can juggle before they lose their advantage and eat into their bottom line. As a sports bettor, you too can figure out your optimum number of bets. Once you establish it, you should treat it as a maximum cap. Again, never take bets you do not feel confident in. You can always bet less than that cap and win. But you shouldn’t wager more, even if you feel tempted, because you may be spreading your resources too thin, and your analysis may suffer.
2. Get a good setup.
When multi-tabling poker, players need to choose a setup on their screen which maximises visibility and makes it easy to follow their various tables (they can choose from options like stacking or tiling). They also need to pick a hardware setup which facilitates complex play. Many serious multi-tablers have second monitors for just that reason. A small screen like a mobile device is not recommended.
As a sports bettor, you likewise need a setup which will facilitate your activities and help you to follow a lot of complex action, especially if you will sometimes be juggling more than one wager at a time. At no time is this more vital than when you are placing live bets. Resist the urge to place multiple live bets on a mobile device while you are on the go. Get a serious home setup if you are serious about making money betting, and stick with it.
I hope you found these lessons from multi-tabling useful in juggling your sports bets! More lessons are coming right up, so stay tuned for Part 3 of this series. Best of luck managing your wagers!
