Productivity Myths that are Slowing You Down Part 1
The life of a sports bettor can be profitable, thrilling, and rewarding in every way—but make no mistake, it is not an easy path. In fact, just trying to keep up with everything you need to do each day can be a real challenge. You will constantly find yourself striving to find ways to become more productive. To that end, I have written before about productivity secrets for sports bettors. Some of my suggestions have included setting S.M.A.R.T. goals, prioritising your to-do list, and knowing when to take a break.
Quite often, though, what holds you back is not a lack of ideas for becoming more productive, but rather a set of myths that mislead you. Following are some common myths about productivity which may actually be holding you back from success as a bettor.
1. A clean workspace is an organised workspace.
One common mistake that people make when trying to become more productive is attempting to corral all their clutter. You definitely want to know where to find everything at a moment’s notice as a punter—both on and off of your computer—because you will sometimes have to make snap decisions. But you do not want to spend all your time cleaning and stowing things away either. Oftentimes this just becomes a big-time drain, and none of it necessarily means you are any more logically organised. If your clutter is not in your way, do not waste your time trying to get rid of it.
2. You need to work longer/harder to become more productive.
This is one of the biggest myths about productivity! You may believe the key to becoming more productive is simply to put in longer hours or do more in them. But oftentimes the goal of productivity is just the opposite—finding a less-is-more approach to getting things done with less time and less effort. Aim to work smart, not hard.
3. We all work better under pressure anyway.
Maybe you were one of those kids who did the best job on your science fair project or term paper when you crammed it all into the final night—but you cannot apply the same rules to sports betting for the simple reason that you have way more at stake! Yes, pressure sometimes invokes a spur of creative insight, but it also creates panic, which is why this is a bad practice in real life. Emotional instability is just about the last thing you want to be dealing with when you are placing bets. So do not make this productivity myth a convenience excuse for a lack of preparation. You should never save your research and planning for the last minute!
