Cheltenham Festival: Ladies Day
We are just a couple of weeks away from Cheltenham 2017, one of the biggest events in horse racing all year! It all gets started on Tuesday, March 14th, which is Champion Day. The action continues on Wednesday, March 15th, which is Ladies Day. This is the day to dress up (if you are attending in person) in your finest attire and place your bets on the following exciting events:
1:30 Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle Race (2m 5f)
2:10 RSA Steeple Chase (3m 1/2f)
2:50 The Coral Cup Hurdle (2m 5f)
3:30 The Betway Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase (2m)
4:10 The Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase (3m 7f)
4:50 Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle Race (2m 1/2f)
5:30 Weatherbys Champion Bumper (Open NH Flat Race) (2m 1/2f)
While all of these races are exciting, the key race of Ladies Day is definitely the Betway Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase. Anticipation is especially high this year because the event was so exciting last year with Sprinter Sacre’s astonishing victory.
Among the competitors in this year’s race is Douvan, a seven-year-old trained by Willie Mullins. Douvan just won the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown and is currently the favourite for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham 2017. Douvan’s record is astonishing; he was bested in his first hurdle race, but otherwise remains unbeaten. He has won nine contests over fences.
If you are thinking about attending Cheltenham 2017 in person, it is important to know that there is an informal dress code for Ladies Day. While not strictly required, it is highly encouraged that you show up wearing your Sunday best. For ladies, that means a nice dress, skirt or slacks, and a hat. For men, tweed or something comparable is acceptable. Strive for a classy, conservative look, and remember to dress for cool weather.
If you are unable to make it to the stands, you can watch the races live on ITV or on one of our recommended UK betting sites. You can then place your wagers online without the hassle of waiting in line at the teller window at the racecourse.
