Do You Really Ever “Start Over” in Sports Betting? Part 3
In my previous articles in the series Do You Really Ever “Start Over” in Sports Betting Part 1 and Part 2, I have been talking about the disastrous situation where you are betting profitably for a while, and then everything appears to fall to pieces. You work really hard to come up with a great betting system, and then it crumbles. You lose bet after bet and do not understand why. You feel like you are literally “starting all over.”
But I have argued you never really have to start over, because you have a lot of advantages on your side you didn’t when you first started betting. In Do You Really Ever “Start Over” in Sports Betting? Part 2, I shared a few of these with you:
- Your in-depth knowledge of sports, teams, and players.
- Your basic knowledge of sports betting and odds.
- Your technical knowledge of probabilities and statistics.
Now I want to talk about a few other advantages you still have to work with:
- Your betting system, which may still be useable. If you are thinking about throwing your system out because it has stopped working, you may want to slow down and think twice about that decision. More often than not, if you had a system that was working great, you simply need to figure out what changed and then make an adjustment for that change. It would be a mistake to throw away all that hard work if you do not have to—and you probably don’t.
- Experience finding solutions. By now you also hopefully have some experience with solving other betting problems in the past. At the very least, you once solved the initial problem of finding a system that did work. You can apply the problem-solving skills and processes you have learned to your new difficulty now. You grow through every challenge. Eventually you will have faith in your ability to innovate when you need to.
- Fellow punters in the community. You are not alone in all this, or at least you probably don’t have to be. By now you have hopefully taken the time to get to know other people who wager on sports. Some may be local, others could be people you know online. Many will have no intention of helping you, but at least a few probably have some great advice for you and would be more than willing to give you some much needed guidance. When you first got into betting, this is probably something you didn’t have going for you.
So now you know a few more reasons why you are not really starting over from scratch. You may have a lot of backtracking and development to do before you can get back to profiting, but you are building off of a very solid foundation of knowledge, experience, and connections you did not have before. So draw courage from that and persevere. Eventually you will get back to making money betting on sports.
