New Year's Resolution for Bettors: Get Serious About Betting
Most people get into sports betting casually. Maybe money changed hands while you were watching a football game with your friends, and you decided you would start placing bets with bookies the next time around. Eventually perhaps you decided to take your betting career online.
Since then, you may have started thinking about betting differently. You might have discovered that you have a talent for it and wondered whether you could perhaps feasibly make a living from doing it someday. To that end, you may have begun wagering more often, but you may still not be using consistent strategies or taking a smart approach which gives you an edge.
If that sounds like you, you may hope that a career in betting will just grow organically out of what you are doing now. You learn and improve, after all, making one little step forward at a time. Your win percentage might not be very high, and you lose money overall, but you are losing less of it than you used to, and you are starting to see patterns that you can turn to your advantage.
You are on the right track in many ways, but sports betting is a challenging career. Even at best, you probably will not surpass 55-57% wins over losses. And that is assuming that you are performing on the same level as the professionals out there. Their schedules and methods are far more rigorous than yours, so you have a long way to go before you hit that kind of success, and you will not get there through haphazard practices.
That is why you should make it your New Year’s resolution this year to get serious about betting. You are in just the right place to make that decision. You are already armed with a lot of knowledge about the betting world in general and whatever sport you follow, and you have probably already figured out a few techniques that give you an edge.
Make this the year that you will take your betting to the next level. That means:
- Developing a comprehensive betting strategy you can use again and again to succeed.
- Taking only the bets that you know you have a good chance of winning.
- Avoiding types of bets which are designed to cost you money (i.e. parlays).
- Managing your money the smart way.
- No more emotional betting or problem betting. Stop betting on a team winning or losing because you want them to. If you feel yourself losing control of your emotions at any point, stop betting for the day.
It may also mean that you start saving up some money! You may have been taking casual bets for a while now and losing money along the way, but think about it. Don’t you want to give yourself a real chance to win big and create a new career out of this? Hold off with the live bets for a while. Switch to betting on paper and save up your hard-earned cash for when you have your strategies developed and honed as close to perfection as you can reasonably get them. Then start betting with real money again. You’ll win more than you ever have in the past, and it may be enough to jumpstart an exciting new career!
